Wow it's been a while since I posted last, sorry y'all!
Here are some highlights from the last month or so...
1. Mostly what we are eating right now is meat (chicken, beef, fish) vegetables, fruit, and eggs.
2. Mom, Denae, and Emily have all experimented with some GAPS friendly treats such as banana bread, carrot cake, and lemon coconut macaroons. All of these have been surprisingly yummy! I'll try and post recipes soon.
3. The diet certainly doesn't keep one from getting sick, the flu kind of kicked our whole family's butt for a while there, some still have coughs.
4. On this diet we are supposed to avoid all medications, we have had to break that rule some. We were all on Mucinex, Nyquil, Ibuprofen, and Robitusin to varying degrees while sick. I have been off all of my asthma medication since we started this diet, but when I got sick, the infection settled in my lungs and they took quite a beating, so I am currently back on 3 different allergy meds; a steroidal inhaler called dhural, an emergency inhaler called albuterol, and an asthma pill called singulair. (I think those are all correct, but I may be wrong...)
5. We each have things that we are particularly careful to avoid. for myself I am avoiding all gluten because we have long suspected a gluten allergy. I am also avoiding all 'nightshade' vegetable such as tomatoes and peppers (do you know how hard it is to avoid tomato??) These are said to increase inflammation and I am avoiding them because I deal with chronic inflammation in my joints. (And boy does the human body have a lot of joints!)
6. We have cheated a few times. :)
We had ice cream on Christmas Eve and my brother Austins birthday. Some people had cake on his birthday, but because of my avoiding gluten, I opted not to. Both times I had ice cream I had some digestive problems. :(
At the New Years Ball I drank punch made from ginger ale and Simply Raspberry Lemonade. It was AMAZING and I didn't notice any adverse effects. I also had a few pieces of J. Smiths homemade fudge. :)
7. For Christmas we were able to find some treats we could have. The diet does not allow for Stevia because the author was not familiar enough with it to say it was allowed. We decided we don't care. :) We have had some soda pops made with stevia and natural ingredients called Zevia (The soda). They are different, but not bad. We also found some chocolate bars made with stevia that are EXCELLENT! And life is worth living again. :)
We have found some fruit chew thingys that are pretty good, but they make my teeth hurt. :(
8. When I was sick, I really missed buttered toast. Really really REALLY missed it. But I am still alive. I also miss gum. And I will be making my favorite pineapple chiffon cake for a friends birthday, and I will have to decide if I can cheat and have a piece. :) Should I?
Thanks for reading! Thanks for all the encouragement. :)
Oh! By the way, even though this is not a weight loss diet, between being on the diet and being sick, I have lost almost 20 pounds since starting! Yay! Now my work pants don't fit... but I wore a skirt to school today that has been too small for a long time!

Dilemma...
Yay! Scrambled eggs with ground beef... um... green beans... weird.
Now we must solve the problem of where to get lunch when you can't pack something and have to eat out, but can't eat most of the food on the planet...

Progress!!
So today we were finally allowed to have eggs! (which are suddenly appealing. very weird)
The yolk had to be raw, so that was gross. But it was nice to have a breakfast food! And we can eat sour kraut now instead of just the juice. Much better!

Confessions
I have a confession to make. I found a bubble gum jelly bean in my room yesterday. I licked it all day. It was yummy.
First few days
Sorry I haven't posted these sooner, I had a test to study for.
The first two days were the hardest so far. I knew we were in for a rough ride when I woke up to squash soup and sour kraut juice for breakfast. yum.
You don't realize how much you snack on stuff until you can't have it. Here are some things I have ben missing:
gum
ice cream
soda pop
jello (mom gave away my last jello cup from when I was sick)
fruit
BREAD
I think it was really hard at first mostly because of two main things.
First off, I was in my Crave Cycle, if ya know what I mean.
Secondly we ate mostly soups for the first 3 days which are not very satisfying without potato, noodle, flour, or BREAD. I have a harder time with cravings when I am hungry. Tuesday I was at work all day. Every single scoop of ice cream looked peculiarly delicious, even the flavors I don't really like. weird.
When I came home, mamma was nice enough to cook me an extra meal since I was really hungry! Something I could chew on!
Also we have had to have sour kraut juice with every meal. Gross.
We have been taking a probiotic every morning too.
